Man.. I don’t even know where to start. Let’s just say I was full during my entire 4-day trip in San Francisco. In those 4 days, I ate at 27 restaurants, became a skeeball champ, drooled while I watched Klay Thompson from afar, and so much more. Who knew you could pack all that into 4 days?!
Let’s dive in!
San Francisco
This was a last minute trip since my best friend Chels had some time off before she started her new job, so we decided to go to San Fran. Luckily one of our good friends, Colin lived in SF and took us all over the city to eat and explore! This trip was all about hole in the wall restaurants and playing classic Bomberman till 5am.
Flights: $550 CAD through Sky Scanner
Cost: $1000 CAD Spending Money | $2,450 CAD Hotel (split between 5)
Uber: $500 CAD the entire trip for the 5 of us
Duration of stay: 4 Days 3 Nights
*I had TONS of trouble finding a hotel for a reasonable price because I wasn’t aware that there was a conference taking place in the city during my stay. This made it extremely difficult to book anything for 5 people. This usually come in to play when travelling for if you’re planning to visit SF then be sure to check hotels/prices before booking your flight.
Tipping: Anywhere from 18-20% – Keep in mind this is just me. I received great service at all the establishments.
FOOD
Things you must eat while you’re in SF: Pizza (they have a little Italy area), French Onion soup… it’s legit unreal, and eat the entire menu at Coqueta. I honestly loved every single restaurant I ate at because my friend is a food blogger and my other friend from SF is a chef consultant. So let’s just say I was in good hands.
Favourite Restaurants
San Tung – Spicy Beef Noodle Soup & Chicken Wings
Tony’s Pizza Napoletana – They were named 13-time World Pizza Champs. They have a couple different ovens and make some damn good zaaa. I got the classic margarita pizza, it was nice and light and not overly filling at all.
Golden Boy Pizza – PIZZA WINNER. They sell by the slice and is a 3 min walk from Tony’s Pizza. Must try the CLAM & GARLIC pizza!!
Cafe Buena Vista – Grab a seat at the bar and get yourself an Irish Coffee or Irish Hot Chocolate. It’s a nice pick me up.
El Techo – Yummy tacos and a beautiful rooftop view of the city.
Velvet Cantina – Came for a tequila shot but this little hole in the wall gets wild at night on the weekends and has good Mexican food.
Sushi Ran – Sit at the bar and enjoy a nice omakase dinner! Fave nigiri’s: Wagyu & All Tuna
Popeyes – This is making the list because it was my first time having Popeyes. Their biscuits are amazeballs.
El Porteno – On the left side once you walk into the Ferry Building. Must try: Mushroom empanada. This is the best empanada I’ve ever had!
Philz Coffee – Mint Mojito Iced Coffee Half Sweet with Almond Milk.
Ha Nam Ninh – #25 Dry Noodles with Soup on the side and a fried egg. I put a bit of soup to loosen the noodles then poured that sauce all over to mix. The sauce is like CRACK, it’s amazing.
Wang Dae Bak Soju House – Classic Korean joint, they open late and we played Titanic for a while there haha.
Arsicault Bakery – Rated the Nation’s best croissant bakery on Bon Appetit! Yeah, this place’s croissants are pretty much better than France. Must get: Classic, Chocolate, and Ham & Cheese
Brenda’s Meat & Three – Must get: Crab Beignets, fried oysters, and jambalaya.
Absinthe Brasserie & Bar – French onion soup & pretzels are unreal.
Coqueta – Everything from beginning to end was amazing. MUST order: Salmon Ahumsdo, Croquetas de Pollo, Gaucho Ribeye, and Pluma Iberico Pork. I have never had ANYTHING even close to any of these dishes, I wish I could eat chef Dominic’s food in Vancouver!
Humphry Slocombe – Secret Breakfast. Amazeballs.
Nopa – We came here for the best Pork Chop of my life and that is what I got.
Rooster & Rice – One of the best Hainanese chicken on rice dishes I ever ate. This place isn’t fancy it just tastes so damn good. Get the Khao Mun Gai w/ sous vide egg.
Kukje Market (Korean Restaurant inside the supermarket) – Korea fried chicken.
Hawaiian Drive In – Loco Moco will leave you wanting more.
ACTIVITIES
If you get a chance I would totally recommend grabbing tickets to see a Golden State Warriors basketball game! (It’s like 100 times better than watching a Canucks game haha)
Emporium SF
This is where I became a skeeball champ. This is an adult arcade and had all the games you could imagine! Games are cheap and there is even a huge screen you can sign up to play Mario Kart on with your friends!!
Alamo Square
Did someone say “FULL HOUSE”?! This is the place if you’re looking for the Painted Ladies.
