Bali is truly an Instagrammer’s Playground! From the food to excursions, you can expect your mind to be blown away. Many call Bali the Mexico of Asia due to price and number of gorgeous resorts to choose from.
I left for Bali in early June and was only in Bali for seven days, but I can’t wait to go back. I could totally see myself travelling there for over a month and being a true digital nomad! Since I was there for only one week, I wasn’t able to hit the islands, so that is definitely on the list next time. The two cities I visited in Bali were Ubud and Canggu.
Ubud – Bali
I wanted to choose a city within Bali that was super popular. I chose Ubud because many people recommended this location – versus Seminyak and Kuta, etc.
Ubud was a great spot to start our trip with, and since many of the tours picked up from there, it was perfect.
I wanted to book a super nice resort since they all looked super gorgeous. I did all my research through Instagram and Pinterest and tried to book certain resorts six months before our trip… and they were all booked up! I ended up booking Bisma Eight and was quickly one of the best resorts I’ve ever stayed in. Their included breakfast was sooo worth it!
Scroll down to see a few photos of our resort, what tours I booked and how much our resort was in Ubud.
Flights: Air Asia – $570 CAD (BKK to DMK/DMK to SGN)
Cost: $1000 CAD Spending Money
Resort: Bisma Eight – $1,119
Duration of stay: 4 Days and 3 Nights
Tipping: Anywhere from 15-18% – Keep in mind this is just me. I received excellent service at all the establishments and at some point we ordered food from Gojek, and they scootered from distant places to deliver us food.
How did I get around?
Gojek – Indonesia’s equivalent to Uber
Private Driver with Forever Vacations:
– Airport pick-up: $30 USD
– Ubud pick-up to Canggu: $40 USD
You walk out in Ubud, and there are so many restaurants available – super touristy but tons all around. I literally just looked at the menus, and that’s how I decided what to eat sometimes. My favourite dishes were their pork ones – they make the best roast pork!
Gojek is a must download! It’s essentially the equivalent to Uber in Indonesia. The best part about this app is when you order food you can order from multiple restaurants at one time!
Favourite Dishes I tried
Kulit (just pork skin!)
I chose two different tours – Site Seeing & Cooking Class
Forever Vacations – Instagram Tour – $89 USD/Person
There are sooo many tours on Trip Advisor, Viator and more… but I found this excellent tour company through Instagram. They exceeded my expectations, and I had such a blast. I knew I wanted to visit all the iconic sites throughout Ubud, so what better tour to book than their “Bali Instagram Tour: The Most Famous Spots”.
Forever Vacations is one of the best tour companies I have ever booked with! After I booked my tour and private driver with them, they created a Whatsapp group chat with my tour guide and driver. It made communicating super efficient and secure, especially when I had questions before the trip.
Cooking Class – KDong Ding Cooking Class – $45 USD/Person
I love taking cooking classes everywhere we travel so Ben can learn new cuisines and make them for me when we get home haha. This cooking class was definitely an unforgettable one since it took place in Mr.Black’s (instructor) home! We first went on a tour of the market and then cooked up some delicious Balinese food. The tour of his home was really cool since the homes in Bali look super tiny from the front but were actually acres long!
Canggu – Bali
[Pronounced – Chang-gu]
Canggu was my favourite spot! Apparently, it’s the new up and coming hot spot in Bali. It was wayyy less touristy and had a way better feel. Since it was a little quieter, there was less traffic, and I was able to go to yoga and go smoothie bowl, hoping!
The Haven Suites was close to all the smoothie bowl joints and yoga studios. We walked to all the smoothie places and called a Taxi & Gojek to all the other destinations around. Canggu was so relaxing we ordered Gojek takeout 2/3 days for dinner, and it was super worth it. If you book this resort, I would highly recommend getting the breakfast option as well.
Private Driver: Ubud to Canngu resort – $40 USD
Resort: The Haven Suites Bali Berawa – $769 CAD
Duration of stay: 4 Days and 3 Nights
